The Youth Council of Spain presents its electoral proposals for 23J

  •  The CJE begins a tour of Spain and visits the regional Youth Councils.
Madrid, June 29, 2023-. The Youth Council of Spain (CJE) has begun its "Juventour" tour, a campaign that is being carried out throughout the national territory and whose main objective is the presentation of a Decalogue formulated by the CJE, which contains a battery of proposals and priorities to be taken into account for the next Legislature for the proper fulfillment of the social rights of young people, as well as to collect the main demands of the various youth organizations and non-associated youth with which the body will hold various meetings.

Juventour" started in Seville and has passed through Mérida, Madrid and Valladolid, although it will also visit Oviedo, Santander, Logroño, Zaragoza, Valencia, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. At the same time, a macro-survey is being carried out to find out the demands of young people in the run-up to the elections.

The current difficult situation of young people in Spain has been exacerbated by the uncertainty generated by the unexpectedly early elections. For this reason, the CJE, as the body representing young people before the public administration, is visiting all the territories that have Youth Councils to hold meetings, present its electoral proposals and listen to the claims of the various entities that make up the body.

The Decalogue prepared by the CJE addresses a series of structural problems faced by young people at the national level, such as the difficulties encountered in accessing decent, quality employment, affordable housing, the increasingly adverse effects of the climate crisis and the problem of school scholarships, among others. The document also contemplates the scarce support given to active and political participation and to the achievement of public initiatives carried out by young people, where in many territories with local and autonomous Youth Councils there are serious difficulties to obtain an active listening on the part of the institutions or even to achieve the necessary funding channels for the existence of these bodies.

Likewise, the CJE document contemplates the creation of a State Youth Law that includes all the claims that directly affect the fulfillment of the social rights of young people, and that regulates the Youth Council of Spain under a legal framework, like the previous Law of 1983. This new regulation, acquired the condition of an essential tool for the democratic development of the new generations.

In the words of Andrea González Henry, president of the Spanish Youth Council, ''young people have been a hard hit group during the last crisis, therefore, our rights cannot be relegated or forgotten during this election campaign or the next Legislature. We must put youth policies at the center of the political agenda and make our claims and concerns heard before public institutions; only in this way we will be able to actively participate in the decisions that most affect us".
